About StembookDeals
StembookDeals is a price-comparison tool for STEM university textbooks. Our goal is simple: help students stop overpaying for the textbooks they’re required to buy.
The problem
The average STEM undergraduate in the US spends over $1,200 per year on textbooks at publisher list prices. For the same books, the 30th-percentile used copy often sells for 50–80% less — but finding that copy requires checking six different retailers (Amazon, eBay, AbeBooks, ThriftBooks, Better World Books, campus bookstores) for every title, sometimes across multiple editions and international variants. Students don’t have time for that, so they pay list price.
What we do
We aggregate prices from major book retailers daily, anchored on the textbooks actually required in courses at top-50 US STEM programs (MIT, Stanford, CMU, Berkeley, Caltech, and others). You search by ISBN, title, or course code. We show you every retailer’s current price in one view, including historical lows so you can tell whether today is a good day to buy.
How we sort
Cheapest total cost to the buyer wins. We do not upweight retailers that pay us higher commission rates. See our affiliate disclosure for the full explanation.
Current status
StembookDeals is pre-launch. The catalog of tracked textbooks and the price-fetching infrastructure are being assembled now, with a target of summer 2026 for public launch. The waitlist is open at stembookdeals.com— joining it gets you early access and a curated list of the 20 most-searched STEM textbooks with their current best prices on launch day.
Who built this
StembookDeals is an independent project, run from the UAE and built for US STEM students. It’s not a venture-backed startup or a side project of a larger company — just a small operation trying to be useful to students who are tired of textbook sticker shock.
